About
Hello and welcome! As the founder and CEO of Kannar Earth Science, I love to brag about how far we’ve come. We’ve grown from a tiny startup in my basement in 2007 to a thriving company that supports the industry that feeds us all. Kannar celebrated some big wins in 2023 including:
- 50 million pounds of seed peanuts treated with our fungicide package called Peanut Prep
- 300,000 cotton acres treated with our triple combination of insecticides, fungicides and our proprietary biostimulants
- Filed provisional and non-provisional patents for nature-friendly technologies that can be relied on for crop protection and enhancement
- Launched our microplastics-free super-absorbent polymer, Koasis™, to aid growers and foresters managing water scarcity
Sam Cloete
CEO at Kannar Earth Science
Although Kannar offers some of the latest and greatest to support agriculture, many of our customers find us by old-fashioned word-of-mouth.
We listen to our customers and invest heavily in the people that understand your needs. We work with the best science and raw materials, but our finished product is your satisfaction with the entire Kannar experience.
If you are excited about what nature-friendly crop inputs and protection can do for your growers’ profits and soils, I invite you to learn more on our website and get in touch with me or one of our team members. Whether you are a seed distributor looking to boost crop success or a scout in charge of licensing promising technologies, I invite you to see why the people we work with quickly become friends and repeat customers. If you are a researcher or inventor, we are here for you too.
Testimonials

Sam Cloete
CEO
Sam’s love and respect for agriculture came from spending time on his grandfather’s farm in South Africa. Naturally good at numbers, Sam earned his Master's in accounting science at the University of South Africa. After moving to the United States in 1999, he launched Kannar Earth Science in 2007 to bring his energy and business skills to crop input research and development. Sam is a champion of environmental stewardship and building products that reflect a long-term commitment to humans and ecosystems. Under Sam’s leadership, Kannar moved from his basement to a 60,000 square foot facility outside of Atlanta with nine employees. Sam lives in Georgia with his wife and five kids.
Paul Branch
Equipment Innovation and Sales
Paul leads Kannar’s equipment innovation team and sales and is responsible for Kannar becoming the leading technology provider for specialty crops in the US. Paul is a certified welder and machinist with a background in manufacturing and entrepreneurship. He customizes equipment to work for the treatments growers want to use. As a result of Paul’s work, Kannar’s peanut crop inputs will cover 60% of the US peanut crops next year.

History
I founded Kannar Earth Science, Ltd. in 2007, but my deep appreciation for agriculture started as a child on my grandfather’s farm in South Africa. My idyllic memories of the wholesome and tasty food my family grew and the work they did inspired me to use my corporate background to start Kannar. I wanted a company and team that made easy-to-use, regenerative products to promote profits, performance, and the planet on a large-scale.
A first impression matters, so we invested in years of research before we launched our first polymers and colorants. Careful consideration of our customers’ needs helped us build novel seed coating technologies that meaningfully addressed their challenges. Seed treaters loved the uniformity and performance of our coatings that helped sell their seeds to growers who saw measurable improvements in their crops’ establishment.
With our solid base of success, we expanded our R&D efforts to build a portfolio of innovative nature-based technologies and products that support ideal agriculture. We now proudly offer:
-
Custom Seed Coatings
-
Biostimulants
-
Bio-fungicides
-
Seed treating equipment for optimum application
-
Koasis™ as a microplastic free tool for water efficiency
-
HICIN™ containers
In 2021, Seed World Magazine recognized our biostimulant KAN™-7 as a “TOP 10 INNOVATIVE SEED PRODUCT” and we moved forward with our discovery and patent for a single strain, broad spectrum bionematicide. Today, this technology is licensed to a multi-national crop protection company. We also confirmed the viability of Koasis™ for water absorption and release to help establish and grow plants in limited water conditions.
Our team has grown from just me to over a dozen scientists and business professionals, some with farms of their own. We outgrew the makeshift garage and basement locations from our first days. We now proudly operate out of our 60,000 square foot facility in Lawrenceville, Georgia that features our offices, our labs, and our production equipment.
Our technologies are applied on more than 65 million pounds of peanut seeds and more than a quarter million acres of cotton fields. With the flexibility to work on both specialty crops and large-scale row crops, we anticipate entry into new crop markets. We support our seed treatments by offering equipment as a company that knows exactly what works.
Our business grows and our seed treatment buyers return because our products have a history of working as we say they will and full support for any unexpected challenges. From our first days, we’ve run a business that resists the short-term thinking and the temptation to over promise and under deliver. If you haven’t been part of our past, I hope that you will be part of our future and join us on our mission to support exemplary agriculture. We prove every day that healthy profits and a healthy planet can go together.
